Sizes are calculated from your longest side. Different AI image tools support different sizes and ratios, so check the one you use. The ratio flag follows the common --ar format.
What is an aspect ratio?
An aspect ratio is the proportion between an image width and height. 16:9 is a widescreen shape, 1:1 is a square and 9:16 is a tall vertical shape used for stories and short videos.
How to use this tool
Choose a ratio, enter the longest side you want in pixels, and optionally round to a multiple of 8, 16 or 64. Many image models work best with sizes that divide evenly, which is why rounding is useful. The table shows every ratio at the same size.
Check your generator limits
Each AI image tool supports its own set of sizes and ratios, and the limits change. Use this tool to work out the numbers, then confirm that your generator accepts them.
FAQ
It is a ratio parameter used by some image tools, written as width and height, for example –ar 16:9.
Some image models build pictures in blocks, so sizes that divide evenly by 8, 16 or 64 help avoid errors or automatic resizing.
