How to compress images

Drop one or many images into the box above. Each image is compressed straight away and you can see the new size next to the old one. Move the quality slider to find the balance you want, then download single files or all of them in one ZIP. Changing a setting recompresses everything, so you can experiment freely.

What quality setting should I use?

For photos, 70 to 80 percent usually looks the same as the original on screen while cutting the file size a lot. Go lower for thumbnails and backgrounds, and higher for images you plan to print or edit again. Setting a maximum width also helps: a photo straight from a phone is often 4000 pixels wide, far more than a web page needs, and a width of 1600 to 2000 pixels saves a lot of space.

JPG, PNG or WebP?

JPG suits photos. PNG is lossless, so the quality slider does not change it, and the best way to shrink a PNG is to resize it or convert it to WebP. WebP is usually the smallest of the three at similar quality and is supported by all current browsers. Images with transparency should stay PNG or WebP, because JPG cannot store transparency and fills it with white.

Your images stay private

The compression happens inside your browser using your own device. Nothing is uploaded, which also means there are no file-size caps from a server and it keeps working on a slow connection once the page has loaded.

FAQ

We do not set one. Because the work happens on your device, very large images depend on your browser and memory. If a huge photo fails, resize it first or try a smaller batch.

No. They are processed in your browser and never sent to our servers.

JPG and WebP compression is lossy, so some detail is traded for size. At 70 to 80 percent the difference is usually hard to see. If the result is not smaller than the original, the tool keeps your original file.

PNG is a lossless format. Choose WebP or JPG as the output, or set a smaller maximum width.
