How to convert HEIC to JPG

Why are iPhone photos in HEIC?
HEIC is the format iPhones use by default because it stores a photo in roughly half the space of a JPG at similar quality. The problem is compatibility: many Windows apps, older software, websites and upload forms still do not accept it. Converting to JPG gives you a file that opens everywhere.
JPG or PNG?
Choose JPG for photos. It is small and universally supported. Choose PNG only if you need a lossless copy, but expect a much larger file. HEIC photos rarely contain transparency, so there is usually no reason to pick PNG just for that.
