Free Organize PDF Pages

Reorder, rotate and delete PDF pages with a simple drag and drop page view, then save the new PDF.

The messy scan problem, and how to fix it by eye

A pile of paper goes into the feeder, a PDF comes out, and the pages are in the wrong order. Or three scans from different days are joined in a file called scan_final_v2. Fixing this should not need special software. This tool shows each page as a thumbnail, and you rearrange them with your mouse the way you would shuffle printed sheets on a desk. Everything runs in your browser, so a private bundle of documents stays private.

What you can do on the page grid

  • Drag a thumbnail onto another position to move it. The pages shift to make room.
  • Use the arrow buttons under each page to move it one place, which is easier than dragging on a phone.
  • Rotate a page by 90 degrees with each click of its button.
  • Delete a page. It fades out and can be restored with the same button until you download.
  • Reset returns everything to the original order and orientation.

The summary line at the top tells you how many pages will be kept, which is a useful final check before you download.

The classic double-sided scanning mix-up

Here is a very common case. Some scanners and apps can only scan one side at a time, so people scan all the fronts of a stack and then all the backs. The result is a PDF where the pages run front 1, front 2, front 3, and then back 1, back 2, back 3, and so on. To put it right, you need front 1, back 1, front 2, back 2. The back pages are often upside down as well, because the stack was flipped.

With thumbnails, you can see exactly what you have and correct it step by step: move each back page into place beside its front page, and rotate those that are upside down by 180 degrees. It is manual, so for a stack of fifty pages allow some time, but it is far quicker than rescanning. Do the first few pages, download, and check before doing the rest if you want to be sure.

A sensible routine for a long document

  1. Delete the obvious junk first: blank pages and duplicates.
  2. Fix orientation next, since a sideways page is hard to identify.
  3. Reorder last, once the remaining pages are all upright and relevant.
  4. Scroll through the final grid once before you download.

What carries over and what does not

Pages are copied into a new file without being recompressed, so text stays selectable and images keep their quality. Bookmarks and fillable form fields are not carried over, so if the PDF is a form that must stay fillable, use desktop PDF software for the job. The thumbnails are loaded one after another, so on a very long file they may take a moment to appear. The structure is there from the start, and the order you set is what counts.

When a simpler tool is enough

This tool does everything the single-purpose ones do. If your task is only one of them, those are a little quicker: Rotate PDF for orientation, delete PDF pages for removing, and the PDF splitter for pulling out a section. If you need to put several documents together first, use the PDF merger, then come back here to fine-tune the order.

Naming the file you download

The tool names the result after your original with an organized ending, so you can tell it apart. Rename it to something meaningful before you send it, and keep the original untouched in case you want to start over. If you do several rounds of changes, add a version number, such as report-v2.pdf, so you always know which copy is the latest.

Working on a phone or a very large file

On a touch screen, dragging pages is awkward, so use the arrow buttons under each thumbnail, which move a page one position at a time. For a file with many pages, work in sections: fix the first twenty, download, and continue from there if you like. Thumbnails of a long document appear one after another, so give the page a little time to load before you start moving things, and keep the tab open until you have downloaded the result.
