Speech is produced by your own browser and device. Nothing you type is sent to us.

How to use the text reader

Paste or type your text, choose a voice, set the speed and press Play. You can pause, resume and stop at any time. Long text is read in parts, so it keeps going without cutting out partway through.

Where the voices come from

The voices belong to your device and browser, not to us, so what you hear depends on what you use. Windows, macOS, Android and iOS each include several voices, and many languages are available. Phones and recent computers often have natural-sounding ones. If a language is missing, add its voice in your system settings and reload the page.

Good to know

  • This reads text aloud. It cannot export an audio file, because browsers do not allow saving the speech they produce.
  • Some browsers offer online voices run by the browser maker. They are marked online in the list, and the text you read may be sent to that company. Tick the offline voices option to keep your text on your device.
  • Punctuation controls pacing. Commas and full stops make natural pauses, and line breaks add a longer one.
  • Proofreading by ear is a good use: reading your own writing aloud makes awkward sentences and typos easy to spot.

FAQ

Yes. There is no sign-up and no character limit.

No. Browsers can play speech but do not let a web page record it. If you need an audio file, you will need a dedicated recording or voice-over tool.

Some browsers load voices a moment after the page opens. Wait a second or reload. If the list stays empty, your system may have no speech voices installed.

No. We never receive it. Check the voice label though: a voice marked online may send text to the browser maker, so choose an offline voice if that matters to you.
